I'm currently looking to change providers, as I am out of contract with my current provider for the past six months. I don't particularly care for Bord Gais, but if the rates were considerably cheaper, then I would have switched to them. However, after seeing that the majority of people on this site would rate bord gais as a 0 star was that option available, I think I'm better off to steer clear of this crowd. I'm not basing it only on that. My parents booked a service of their gas boiler with Bord gais because they received a call with a special offer. My parents are vulnerable octogenarians, and I usually look after everything for them. They were told, (or they remember) that the boiler service would be put on their bill as they were already bord gais customers. A few months later, they received a letter from bord gais demanding payment for the €99 euro, or their account would be sent to a debt collector. I rang bord gais and spoke to the rudest woman I've ever had the displeasure to speak to under any circumstances, who refused to let me speak, demanding the payment only and who when I eventually raised my voice slightly, so I could be heard over her angry tones, said she wasn't there to be abused by customers and hung up. I work in customer service myself and understand the absolute necessity to listen to the customer, to make them feel heard and understood, and that their concerns are important and will be addressed. If nothing else a listening ear and a clear explanation delivered in the right tone can diffuse any situation. But this lady did not give me the courtesy of any of that. She had no interest in the fact my parents were in their late eighties and panicked when they saw that letter. She didn't let me resolve anything with her as she simply hung up. I'm not abusive, or even aggressive and I don't shout, the aggression on that call came from her. I think in this instance now, I'll simply move on to a provider that will treat me with respect and deal with me in a fair manner. Such a pity, but unless and until Bord Gais get their customer service in order, I think I'll be steering clear of this crowd.
