Where do I start? DON'T USE DYSON.
Where do I start?, Well I first had a survey from this company thanks to East Lindsey Distric Councils grant scheme for those on low incomes & without mains gas. The survey was on or around September 2022, after two previous survey by other contractors to look and see what could be done. After having reccomended loft insulation (we don't have a loft, it's converted to a bedroom and the roof is fully insulated with Celotex then plywood in the access spaces and platerboard in the bedroom itself) they eventually decided solar would be a good option. When Dysons surveyor came along in January he was offhand and left our loft access panels and the access doors unsecured in spite of my showing him how to remove and replace them - simple, undo slide bolt, open door, push out insulation panel then remove and replace when done. Having then seen that between all roof joists there was plywood panelling over (under) Celotex insulation board between each he nearly did the 'don't know if I can survey this suck of teeth' - I suggested he unscrew a panel to verify the condition of the joists but that was clearly beyond him. Bearing in mind our property had already been subject to a complete refurbishment with cavity wall and roof insulation so none of the foregoing should be at all unusual to a proffesional operation. Fast forward 6 months to June '23 and I received a call from East Lindsey D.C., asking if I was happy with the installation. Installation, I asked, what installation? Apparently Dyson had not informed ELDC of any problems, and the last ELDC heard was approval for a scissor lift had been requested by Dyson - surely a fairly ususal request for roof access. However, the young lady who called me assured me that they had heard nothing else from Dyson and that she would look into the matter and find out what happened. I asked if Dyson had charged ELDC for the work already but as this was 'confidential commercial information' (our taxes, commercial?) she was unable to confirm or deny. A week later I had a telephone call from possibly a junior office lady from Dyson who apologised on behalf of them profusely and explained that they had never had the scissor lift approved by ELDC and in any case the 'roof membrane integrity' would likely be compromised by the installation of the solar panels. When I questioned her on this she clearly had no idea whatsoever about standard slate over joist construction with black bitumenised membrane between, this being surely one of the most common types of roof in the UK, and was clearly out of her depth. I would seriously advise anyone having solar panels installed not to use this company as they are clearly unable to deal with anything slightly out of the ordinary (our plywood inner panels holding up the Celotex), and deputise their least qualified people to explain things when they screw up (Not communicating with the client ELDC., myself). What a shower. It seems that others have had many unsatisfactory experiences so be warned and DON'T USE DYSON. PS: No stars was not and option so I had to award one which they aren't worth.
