The service on board was excellent and the quality and cleanliness of the rooms was of a very high standard. Meals were varied and the menu was diverse and cooked to an excellent standard. The portions were not too large and enabled a fine eating experience without over facing the guests. The quality of the wines was just right for each occasion. Communication on board with the passengers was of a high standard and nothing was too much trouble for the crew. As far as the shore excursions were concerned,I have some concerns. We were all given a radio hearing device with one earpiece through which the guide briefed us on our tour ashore. Either the guide had the microphone in the wrong place or the equipment was faulty which made it very difficult for the audience to hear. Guides should be given better tuition on the use of the microphone in areas of high background noise. My wife used her own I pad earpieces which improved the situation somewhat but even then it was difficult to hear the guide. The best guide was in Regensburg who spoke excellent English, she had a degree from Aberdeen University and really knew her stuff. We heard every word she said probably because she has positioned her microphone in the correct place. Another point for the tours was that we were not warned of the need to have change to use in the toilets. This caused a degree of concern to we tourists and at one stage I found myself having to push two people through the gate as only one had change! Finally, the water in the cabins on board is ‘grey’ water. It would be better from a health and safety perspective if a flask of fresh water was in each cabin for tooth cleaning and for a drink if needed at nighttime. I hope the above helps you to approve even more, the experience we had on our holiday. Once off the boat we stayed in the hotel overnight in Neuremburg before being picked up on time the following morning to be taken to Munich airport to catch the flight home on the 15 October. Munich airport is amongst the worst I have been to in many a year of air travel. The communication was unbelievably poor. The facilities were widely dispersed and inadequate for purpose and the management on the boarding desk was abysmal. When we arrived there was hardly anyone at the airport who could direct us to the right place, there was no baggage drop off facility ( we had checked in on line and had boarding cards but ended up in a long queue to go through standard check in procedures). It took us 35 minutes queueing before we got our revised boarding cards as, “they had changed the plane”. A sorry end to what had been a good holiday.
