SSP helped relieve my chronic back pain — and healed my cat too

I’ve been living with chronic lower back pain for many years. Over time, I tried everything I could think of—physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, anti-inflammatory diets, stretching, posture therapy, red light therapy, psoas release tools, acupuncture, and so many other treatments. Nothing gave me lasting relief. One day, while searching online for new options, I stumbled upon somatic movement. I gave it a shot, and while it helped a little, the relief didn’t last. On the same website, I also found an article about SSP (Safe and Sound Protocol). I reached out to Trever and decided to give it a try. Honestly, I was skeptical—but at that point, I was open to anything. During the first few days, I listened for just one minute a day, and surprisingly, I felt better. I thought it had to be the placebo effect. But when we increased the listening time by only 10 seconds, things actually got worse. That blew my mind—how could just 10 seconds make such a difference? We went back down to one minute, and I kept a daily log of how I was feeling for over three months. Slowly but surely, my pain dropped from a level 7 to about a 3. That felt amazing—but I still hoped to get even better. Trever suggested trying some brain retraining programs. I experimented until I discovered Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Alan Gordon’s book The Way Out. That’s when things really clicked. I realized my pain was “neuroplastic pain.” With some simple techniques, I started teaching my brain to process these sensations as safe. Combining SSP with PRT, within about a month my pain dropped even further—to about a 1. Around that same time, my three-year-old cat, who’s been with us since she was just two months old, suddenly started having health issues. She began peeing on the floor, and we noticed blood in her urine. We rushed her to the vet, but ultrasounds and lab work showed nothing. Medications and prescription diets didn’t help either. While I was in my second month of SSP, I remembered reading on Trever’s website that SSP could also help animals. I contacted him right away, and we set up a program for my cat. Getting her to listen wasn’t easy, but we managed. After the first week, she had one more incident, but after that—nothing. She completed the full SSP program in about a month and a half, and she hasn’t had a single issue since. That was a huge turning point for me. If SSP was just placebo, it wouldn’t have worked for my cat—she had no idea what it was. I still don’t fully understand the science behind how SSP calms the nervous system, but I don’t need to. What I know is this: it has helped both me and my cat in ways nothing else ever has. I’m so grateful for it, and I’d recommend it to anyone dealing with chronic pain or stress.
