Smart Meter not very smart, fitter even less so

5 weeks ago, we had a new gas meter and a smart meter fitted and the smart meter has not worked since installation. My husband contacted our energy suppliers after 10 days and they were going to “look into it” and get back to us. 2 weeks later we made another call as no-one had bothered to call and this useless object is still sitting there doing nothing. Not impressed with the fitter. He couldn’t call out our name i.e., Mr or Mrs when he wanted something, he just kept bellowing out “HELLO” each time. Rude. Our electricity meter is, for some reason, in a cupboard in our dining room, so we rolled up the large rug covering the wooden floor, so that he didn’t put his boots all over it. Some other floors are tiled so not a problem – i.e., from the front door, where he was shown in. I was working outside, and the chap went back to his van a couple of times and then I didn’t see him and presumed he was working inside. It wasn’t until I went to go into our other entrance, having taken off my shoes, to find that he’d decided to take a quick route over the large Turkish rug in our hallway and was walking backwards and forwards over it with his boots. I couldn’t believe it and made him aware of the error of his ways. I think the company should supply the fitters with shoe covers to protect other people’s property – especially when they are like him. Not impressed. We were even less impressed when we walked outside after he’d departed, to find that he’d left the old meter and plastic rubbish strewn all over our path and the gas cupboard door with the key still in it, swinging backwards and forwards in the wind. Find another company if you can.
