Unhappy Experience All Round

I phoned Animal Trust in Dewsbury to ask if they would castrate our dog Billy. They assured me they would and made an appointment to see a vet first. Met by an ignorant vet who loudly talked over my wife and I and refused to answer our questions. She told us they would not do the operation. We called 3 other local vets who all said they would do it and we had him done 10 days later with no problems. We never returned to Animal Trust and never will. Around 9 months later in June 2024 Billy was put to sleep and we were devastated. So imagine our shock to receive an email from Animal Trust Shrewsbury on the 2nd of July this year to remind us that Billy had an appointment at 2.30pm with a warning that we would be charged if we missed the appointment. 1. We NEVER made an appointment with Animal Trust. 2. We have NEVER been to Shrewsbury in our lives. 3. Billy had been dead for over a year. 4. Completed the complaints form online (a huge mistake as they totally ignore you and their own complaints process). Animal Trust is registered at Companies House and shows the founder and CEO to be a vet called Owen Monie whose holding company has significant control. UPDATE: As I wrote this review I received a response to my short email (asking for the complaint to be escalated as I had not received a reply) from the area practice manager explaining what went wrong and sincerely apologising. This was the only good part of this experience.

Failed To Carry Out Procedures

This practice is called a veterinary hospital. It is also ultimately owned by Mars Petcare. You might think it would be excellent. It is not. I took our Rottweiler there after he developed a skin problem around his right eye. I agreed he be sedated for the skin scraping so booked in for 8.15am in a week's time. Arrived at 8.15am and seen by 8.25am. The previous visit we had to wait 40 minutes and the time before, 45 minutes. The vet seemed pleasant and we agreed to 1. sedation, 2. skin scrape, 3. blood test, 4. nails cutting, so I signed the consent form. The price was £415. Waited all day to be contacted by the vet with the results. She never called. At 6.10pm a nurse called and very briefly said Max did not have mites, they did not know what the problem was and to apply some cream and take a Nexgard chew once a month (for mites/fleas/ticks). No mention of the invoice or the blood tests or the nail cutting but to collect Max at 7pm. Arrived at 7pm and had to wait until 7.40. A nurse called me in and said everything had been explained and the bill was now £473. Telling her it had not and she said she started at 7pm and had no knowledge of Max's procedures. The vet of course had gone home. Asked her about the blood test results and said they had not been done. Why not? Don't know. Asked to speak to whoever was in charge. Seems no one as they don't have admin staff evenings or nights. Even though this place calls itself a 24 hour hospital. After some words I said just get my dog and when he came through he was hardly awake, unsteady on his feet and definitely not himself. She said if I wanted to wait she would get a vet to do the blood test!!! Unbelievable. Went to the receptionist and told her the blood tests had not been done or the nail clipping. She was amazed they hadn't been. There was someone in charge if I wanted to speak to them but one vet was operating and one was with another owner so I declined. By now I just wanted out of the place. I told her I would not be paying the balance and left. We suspect Max was not sedated until at least 3pm due to his weak condition so he was cooped up in a small kennel for more than 11 hours totally unnecessarily. Do not be fooled by the grand 'hospital' name. This is just an ordinary practice with a small reception area. It is chaotically run. One far eastern vet was particularly rude and offhand when coming out to owners and one we saw previously, with a European accent, did not know what a 'tick' was. Reported to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for failing Max. If you care for your pet, do NOT come here.
