not hassle-free, but with a good ending
Update: I'm changing this to three stars now, as customer service eventually listened and refunded the extra charges. Too much unnecessary hassle with several emails back and forth, but I really appreciate that routes.ca acted in my interest as a customer now and solved this in a satisfactory manner. --- Another O'Hare fraudster company (there are plenty of those unfortunately...). Hassle-free is a joke, getting your car takes forever. The car drove okay, but had a distinct weed smell inside. Beware of unannounced extra charges related to their awkward "out of state border crossing fee". I informed the guy that I would leave Illinois for one evening in Wisconsin and he said that he would charge me for one day. Apparently, he added a charge for the full four days without telling me (that can be found under BCF in the rental contract, but no instructions were provided).
