I purchased a car battery from RAC
I purchased a car battery from RAC, reassured by its advertised five-year guarantee. However, after only three years, the battery failed. When I reached out to RAC for support, they claimed the battery reading was 7.5V and refused to replace it. I later had the battery independently tested by Halfords, which showed a reading of 12.75V—indicating a significant discrepancy in their assessment. I believe the real issue was my lack of additional battery replacement cover, a clause that was never clearly explained at the time of purchase. Despite escalating the matter to RAC’s CEO directly, I received no response, and their customer service flatly refused to uphold the complaint or engage constructively. I was forced to purchase a replacement battery from Halfords after being left stranded, while RAC offered me a new battery for £199—demonstrating just how hollow their guarantee truly was. I have since reported the case to both the Financial Ombudsman and Trading Standards. Buyers beware: RAC’s battery guarantee is misleading and their customer service lacks accountability.
