They will try to rip you off
We rented a flat through Dexter 7 years ago. Once they came for an inspection with our permission whilst we were away. We were only handed 2 of the 3 keys for the main door when we rented. Coming back the 3rd locker was closed. It was 11pm, we had many luggages, a 2 year old, we called the out of hour service and was not able to get help as it was too late and o needed to find a locksmth myself. It was not an easy task so we ended up sleep on a friend's couch, lost the food we brough and not a single apology from the agents nor the landlord. Now, 3 years later, we gave notice. Left the flat impeccable and they still tried to rip us off. The flat had wall mounted plug in heaters that we move position to get a more efficient heat on the rooms. Our mistake is not to [it it back on its original place. To get our deposit back, they requested £350. When questioned why I need to pay an electrician to plug in a heater into a socket, that price was magically reduced to £100 without an explanation as why we needed an electrician for this service. I am now waiting for evidence that the service I had to pay was really done. Just be aware, they will try to rip you off. Update (18/03/2025) - dexters contacted me and offered a John Lewis £50 voucher as an apology. Still, one month later, I haven't got the evidence nor the invoice of the service I was asked to pay for. According to my previous neighbours, the flat is occupied, which reinforces that no service was need to be provided. We left the flat ready to be occupied. Such a disappointment and unethical from them.
