Disappointment this could spoil your holiday
We prebooked a rental vehicle from Goldcar at Bergamo Airport for 2 weeks. Total cost including extra driver was £716. We went to the desk in the airport. We were told they did not have the Ford fiesta we had booked but they did have a Renault Clio. After a very hard sell for extra insurance which we refused as we have our own annual policy, they gave us the contract and a damage sheet for the Renault. We were appalled. The rear of the car had serious damage on both wings, in total there were 22 damaged areas on the car according to their paperwork. We stated that the car appeared seriously damaged but were told this was the only car left. On picking up the car we saw the damage was serious - not just scratches but actual holes in the bodywork together with dents and scratches on nearly every panel and the rear hubcaps were missing. We called a staff member to discuss the position but he was rude and walked off. It was an embarrassment to drive. If we had wanted to drive a car in this condition we would have gone to a scrapyard!! This car should never have been rented out. On returning the car we spoke to the employee who checked it over and confirmed we had not added any more damage to it and our deposit would be released. Again we commented on the condition of the car and the employee stated it was an old car and what can you expect from an old car !! We didn't book an old car, we thought we were booking a decent car, we could probably have bought this one for £700. Warning anyone considering renting from this company should photograph every panel of their car before taking it out of the compound.
