Customer service lied about the warranty!!!
I spoke with customer service over the phone about a brand new bike that my late father purchased for my son. The bike is brand new and was only rode once due to the bike being too big for my son. It is an Apollo Valier. I explained that since my father passed I have no access to his receipts, emails etc. i explained that the bottom bracket is making a cranking sound. I was told they would book it in for a free healthcheck and that they would honour the warranty as it was only 5 months old, but never used. I took it into Western Avenue Cardiff branch who then charged me £30 and said despite clearly the bike being new and unused, the bottom bracket isn’t covered by the warranty as it is wear and tear. But I explained the bike hasn’t been used as the shop assistant could see and agreed. She then said the front and rear wheels have signs of buckling. Impossible as the bike hasn’t been used. So this must be a manufacturer defect. I am not happy and will look to take this further under consumer law as the bike is almost £300, and should be safe to ride and should not really be defective. I have my son who is still reeling over the death of his Grandad, and the gift that was bought for him is defective and he has only tried it out once!
