Avoid if you value professional service
I'm giving Dexters Wapping 2 stars as they eventually got the job done, but in all honesty, they were a nightmare and we’d never use them again nor recommend them to anyone. We had valuations from 3 estate agents and decided to go with Dexters because, although they gave the lowest valuation, we felt they had experience in our location. We were then shocked that a mere 2 weeks after putting our flat on the market, they asked us to drop the price by £25,000… Another estate agent we spoke to said these are Dexters’ tactics, locking you into a long contract then very early on pressuring you to discount heavily. Had we known, we would never have signed with them. We wanted to leave them several times but you’re locked into the contract and it’s hard to get out. Initially over the phone they quoted us a reduced commission if we used their solicitors, but once we agreed they upped this commission from 1.5% on the phone to 1.75% in writing. No explanation, implying we must have misheard on the call. From the get go they came across as unprofessional. The assistant they had working on our Rightmove advert was blunt and rude. She drafted it with 3 grammatical errors in one sentence. We had to redo it ourselves and send it back to her. We then had to fight with them to get the photos we wanted used online. Dexters contacted our tenants without our permission, upsetting a delicate situation and causing tension around future viewings. Our tenants specifically asked for people to remove shoes during viewings and not to be left alone in rooms. We asked Dexters to respect this but they did not, which caused problems between us and our tenants. Dexters lost our keys on two separate occasions. The second time, they told us they’d meet us to deliver the keys since we couldn’t collect them the day prior (due to their misplacement) and then they were 50 minutes late. I had to cancel afternoon meetings because my ‘lunchbreak’ to pop to the flat ended up taking 2.5 hours. When you call their office, they promise to call you back but rarely do. One time we were in their office (waiting for keys to be found) and could see someone taking a call, they said their colleague was on another call, when they were just at their desk scrolling on their phone. Overall they were unreliable and we found their service poor. Often the manager Jason came across arrogant, disrespectful and with no sense of accountability. They left us frustrated and at times furious. Avoid Dexters Wapping if you value professionalism and respect. On a positive note, the solicitors they recommended did a good job on the conveyancing, so at least that’s something.
