Deceptive pricing, worse than awful website
Let's start with the good: the service worked. Calls and data both worked almost all of the time, though I did have to toggle airplane mode at least once in the few months I had it. The limited bandwidth data after the high-speed quota is exhausted is advertised as 128 KB/s but it feels much, much slower than that. It's basically unusable as it does not just load things slowly; everything seems to time out completely. The pricing is deceptive. The "$10/mo" plan is actually $12.99/mo. Sure, some of that is taxes, but they don't even try to hide the fact that the other half is junk fees like "Regulatory Recovery Fee" and "Admin Fee." The website is the worst I've ever used. The 2FA doesn't work (it sends a code, but it always says I entered the wrong code) and locked me out until I contacted support to reset it and disable 2FA. It worked for a few months until yesterday, when I found that the website had for some reason IP-blocked me! I have no idea why. When going to redpocket.com in any browser, including in private mode, it's just a blank white page. I had to use my phone's cell data just to be able to load the page and sign in. If I manually renew (i.e. pay $12.99) a few days before the month is up, then the remaining days are simply lost. For example if I start my month on Jul 1 (through Jul 31) and then pay for a second month on Jul 25, my expiration date is now Aug 25 — not Aug 31. Similar story applies for upgrading plans. The best part is that in order to disable auto-renew, it requires a 2FA to the line being whose auto-renew is being disabled. So if I lose a phone or SIM, apparently I would then have no way to stop making payments on that SIM. All around just a sketchy, shady, dishonest operation.
