Listen to the reviews and do not book
Listen to the reviews and do not book! I booked through a 3rd party for pick up at the Denver airport. I wasn't given the rental company name until I received the voucher 48 hours before our reservation which at that point, it was too late to cancel. If you do go with them, bring not only your car insurance card BUT also the declarations page that show you have collision and comprehensive insurance. Apparently, that's how they get most people to purchase not only Route's insurance, but the additional collision insurance which runs about $40 a day. Luckily from reading reviews, I made sure to bring those items. Pick up for us went very smoothly. So, I thought we were in the clear. There was a crack in the windshield that I made sure to video during pickup. During our 4 days stay in Colorado, where it snowed and sleeted most of the trip, somehow the windshield cracked in a new spot. So, shocker when I go to drop off the vehicle, they inform me that yes, they were aware of the previous crack in the windshield, but I would be charged my whole $500 deposit for the new crack. Mind you, there was already one crack (different spot), it was 60 degrees the day we picked up the rental and during our stay, temps got as low as 10 degrees, plus sleet/ice throughout the trip. So, you combine all of those factors, one can very easily see how we got the short end of the deal when it came to getting charged $500 for an already cracked windshield. You think you're saving money by using them, but just like everyone else has said, the initial discount/cheap price you get when booking, will not be the final price paid. Had I just booked straight through an actual good car rental place vs trying to find the cheapest, I would have saved at minimum $300 in the long run. Don't walk, run away from this rental agency.
