Great Indian Rail Journey
Overall this was an excellent holiday. The itinerary which took us beyond the Golden Triangle to Ranthambore, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Shimla allowed us to explore beyond cities and experience a more peaceful ( no honking horns) side of India. Travel by train added to the adventure, and the Toy Train to Shimla was a highlight - stunning scenery with views into the distant Himalayas. Visiting the Taj Mahal exceeded my expectations. What made the trip so good was our excellent Tour Manager, Abi (Abhishek Chordia). He dealt with all the arrangements with great efficiency, got to know us all as individuals and a decent sure we all had a wonderful time. Whilst the inclusion of so many meals was greatly appreciated it was a pity that all included diners were hotel buffets. This resulted in a very similar offering at all hotels ; in a number of hotels the food was not kept particularly hot and this possibly contributed to most of us being unwell at some point on the holiday. Perhaps a nice touch would be to include one or two dinners that were not buffet style. Accommodation was of a good standard with the hotel at Shimla being excellent and set in a stunning location, albeit at the end of a rather hair raising drive!
