COVID-19 COVER - BE VERY CAREFUL

BE VERY CAREFUL - DIRECT TRAVEL INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER PANDEMIC/COVID-19 IMPACTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE A POSITIVE TEST. Paid for Winter Sports Insurance (Platinum) cover for party of 3, travelling by car to French Alps in March 2020. French Government closed all ski resorts due to COVID-19, on the Sat night we arrived. We had to return on the Monday, just before borders were closed and independent travel became restrictive. After many explanations to justify claim, the Claims Handling Agency (CSAL) simply refused to settle. Claim for additional travel, accommodation expense, piste closure, etc. was turned down - CSAL stating the exact cause [closed ski resort, by country authority] was not listed under 'Cutting your trip short'. The Dec 2020 Policy has now been updated to 'Extend Cover for COVID-19' - HOWEVER any claim will ONLY be covered if the insured person has a positive COVID-19 test. Also updated the list of exclusions, specifically excluding local government restrictions or directives that prohibit or restrict entry to intended destination - which makes it more frustrating that my claim was not settled before this policy update.
