Anglian water closing roads unnecessarily and isolating rural villages
Anglian water have a nasty habit of cutting off the road from Prickwillow to Ely and forcing a miles long detour through littleport, costing residents time and extra fuel. They have just closed the road again for about the fourth time in the space of two years, to repair a pipe which is on one side of the road and could have been dealt with by using traffic signals and a lane closure (in a 30mph street). Why is Anglian water closing whole roads to work on one side? I'm guessing a straight closure is cheaper than paying for traffic light management. Doesn't matter about people who live here and need to get to work, take their kids to school, or the delay to emergency vehicles.
