The WPS web site is misleading
The WPS web site is slick, and makes booking a shipment pickup easy. However, when we booked a pickup of a box 80x60x60 weighing 46kg, all did not go well. Firstly the courier arrived on the scheduled day, and refused to uplift the box. When we inquired with WPS why, we were informed that 'as it was a crate and not a parcel there would be an additional £175 charge' The size and wight of the box was fully disclosed, WPS took payment, and their-by accepted the the box for shipping. To retrospectively add £175 is dishonest. Beware of the glossy website! Hello Richard. Let me reply to the comments you have made. Yes, you did offer a 10% discount on shipping and made the suggestion to use two smaller boxes. This offer was made twice, by Theresa and yourself. I twice advised you that smaller boxes were not an option due to the size of the main item being shipped You say that 'I was not prepared to help' the delivery driver with the shipment. I am in New Zealand, so it would be very difficult for me to help! The residents of the pick up location were unable to help due to age and infirmity. The request for a two man lift was made simply because one man refused to collect the shipment! The bottom line, and the point you are conveniently failing to acknowledge, is that the size and weight of the shipment was know to you. If this was not considered a parcel, then why accept and charge for the service? I still stand by my original comments, and whilst 'dishonest' might not be an appropriate word, I definitely think this this is a sharp practice and not at all transparent. If it was transparent, the £175 charge would have been flagged and added before payment was requested. Yes, I did request a 15% discount. I felt that I'd done everything I could have, answered all the questions asked on the website correctly and yet, though no fault of my own, I was faced with a considerable increase in the original service that I'd paid for wholly due to the way the website worked. I respect your company's position not to offer that discount. I suggest you have another look at your website, to see where it could be improved to prevent this happening in the future. Final comment regarding your statement "You were not faced with a "considerable" increase as with the discount offered you would have been within about 3% of the original charge." Now who is leaving out 'certain points'! This is another misleading statement as to 'have been within about 3% of the original charge' you required that the original box was repacked into two smaller boxes. I told you on multiple occasions that this was not an option due to the size of the main item being shipped. I will leave it for others to judge whether or not you are a good company to deal with. I have posted these comments to help others avoid the issues that I have experienced.
