An excellent holiday and introduction to river cruising
We did the Danube cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg onboard Emerald Destiny. The whole booking, receiving tickets, pre cruise information etc was efficient and easy. This included flights and transfers from and to the airports. On arrival at the ship we were quickly booked in and shown to our cabin with a short explanation of what was where. After unpacking we had a late lunch which was buffet style. The whole organisation was excellent, efficient and friendly, indeed the service could not be faulted. Staff all spoke English and went out of their way to make sure you had all you wanted and you were having an enjoyable experience. Each day there were trips, either walking or by bus, where the ship was too far away. As well as this there were more active activities including cycling, hiking, plus several trips where you paid extra. On board there were nightly activities, a film etc. Food was excellent for meat eaters. There was an issue for pescatarians as meat was added to some fish dishes. As a vegetarian I was initially delighted that each day the menu placed in our cabin stated what dishes were suitable for me. The problem is they clearly thought I would eat fish and bacon. That said they happily adapted dishes when I requested. This was an excellent holiday with ample activities and relaxation and a good experience for our first cruise.
