Indiffirent service when delivery of my new car was delayed
When searching to replace my existing lease car, I found the Select website to be very user-friendly in exploring different vehicle choices & pricing options, including optional extras. I submitted an enquiry for a Skoda Kodiaq which was dealt with by Lee Evans and the price quoted was competitive so I paced an order in January, and was told that delivery must be accepted by the end of June which I was happy with as my current vehicle was being returned at the end of the same month. All the paperwork went through fine, and closer to the time delivery was arranged [via automated emails] for 26th June. My current lease vehicle was being uplifted on the same day, and the insurance policy was also set to change that day. On the 23rd June I received a call from Lee who advised me that my car would NOT be delivered on the 26th. I explained that I could not be without a car which I need for work, and that the insurance policy was already swapped over. He was completely indifferent to my view that it was unacceptable to cancel the delivery with such short notice. I explained how much of a hardship this would be and he gave the impression that he couldn't care less. I asked how I could escalate this to which he replied "you can't, there's no point, I've worked in this industry for 15 years". He also became evasive when I asked for details of the supplying dealer which was a bit concerning, and he said it was my fault "for not taking the car sooner" (!) even though it was agreed from our very first conversation that I would not take delivery until the end of June I asked how long it would be before the car would be delivered - "I can't tell you that". Ultimately I was left in a position where I would need to go & hire a car at my own expense, with absolutely no idea how long I would have to hire it for. He said that he would give me a call once he had an update (I asked for it the next day, he said it would be when he had news) ... no call was ever received and I only knew delivery would be happening when I got an automated email offering a date. I now have the vehicle as of yesterday and I'm happy with it, but as mentioned, I've never heard from Select via phone or personalised email. What I HAVE had however is multiple sales emails urging me to take out a maintenance plan [I already did this when I placed the order] as well as tyre insurance [again. already ordered] and then a phone call from Motoreasy who specifically mentioned Lee by name, trying to sell me Gap insurance! I don't believe I agreed for my details to be passed to Motoreasy so that's a potential GDPR breach. Ultimately would I use Select again? Yes, probably, if they had the best vehicle pricing, but I would definitely not deal with Lee again I'm afraid
