Horrible Billing Department Policies

Contacted Lifestance Health about an overpayment. The Billing Representative indicated that she could not discuss anything related to the refund process with me as I was not the patient and she did not want to lose her job over it. When I indicated that other medical billing departments have no problem providing that information to the individual who is the primary insured she implied they were breaking the law. This despite the fact that they did not reveal to me any PII nor any protected medical information. When I asked if I would be contacted about whether there would be a refund, she stated she would call my wife if she hears anything about it. My wife later went online to fill out the form to share information with me. It turns out that the section for sharing medical information specifically excludes sharing billing information. Not being a native English speaker, she would have missed this disclaimer without my assistance. One has to scroll through and read each section to figure out which one shares billing information. Definitely the WORST form of it's kind I have ever seen, and I've seen well over a dozen of them. It certainly seems like LifeStance intentionally made it difficult for the primary insured to access billing information.
