Reasonably good at normal price; very good on discount
4* at discount price; 3-3.5* for full price IMHO. I have used iDrive for 2 or 3 years now, and am an experienced IT professional who has used many different backup systems over the years. On that basis I can say that iDrive is reasonably good and is priced well for me as I have multiple computers to backup and have tested the restore function several times; however, it is not without its flaws. I will often get around 20Mbps file upload to their servers when most of the US market is asleep, but it can drop very low around 1-4Mbps during daytime in the US. Will sometimes get backup failures without any listing in the logs showing which files failed; I have traced these manually on occasion to files I have deleted, or exotic/unsupported file formats, but iDrive software often provides no help in telling you the files it fails to backup. My other gripe is there is no way to block desktop notifications from appearing on top of other programs like games or movies, unless you turn the notifications off. Have also had issues with incorrect warnings about backups not have taken place for days if I set the iDrive service to 'delayed start' (for advanced users only). If you don't mind these issues then it is a reasonably good backup system for the regular price and a steal at the discount price. DISCLAIMER: iDrive offered to refund the full £6.50 cost of my subscription for a review; while that doesn't effect my rating in the slightest, it does explain all the 5* one-hit-wonder reviewers on here.
