Extremely poor customer service!

Extremely poor customer service!! We booked a cabin for my daughter's 16th birthday through Carolina Cabin Rentals. After learning that the area was devastated by the hurricane, we contacted them to cancel. After 22 days they finally responded and denied our request to be refunded our initial payment of $722. We understood there was a cancellation policy in place, but assumed that - given the situation - they would make an exception. We waited several weeks after the hurricane to see how the area would recover, but a day before we were to be charged the remaining amount of our rental fee ($1400) we had no choice but to cancel. According to government websites, multiple roads were still closed, the area was still under a state of emergency, and it was advised that people stay out of the river directly behind our cabin due to hazardous debris in the water. In addition, all of the trails in the area were closed, as were state parks. None of the parents felt comfortable with their children traveling to this area. After CCR denied my refund request, I emailed them explaining I had researched the area's current situation (even including links to government websites with the info). They emphatically told me that schools were open and that they would not be refunding my money. I then explained to them that I did not plan to enroll my child in school there and reiterated that the purpose of our trip was to TOURIST activities that were closed (hike, kayak, raft, visit state parks). We were not spending $2200 and driving 4 hours to simply sit in a cabin for 2 days. I tried getting help from Airbnb, but didn’t get much further. I will not use either company again. What poor customer service and how sad it is that they would use a natural disaster to their advantage.
