Unethical business practices
We got Home Trust's Visa card to use outside Canada, because they charge no more than Visa's fee for currency conversion. Both our income and our assests are in the top 2% to 3%, we have no debt, and we have never caused a hint of trouble when decades ago we did, yet they refused to give us a limit higher than $4000. For travelling this is often inadequate, but we could prepay some of our charges. Now, however, they are ignoring our prepayment when calculating our credit limit. They no longer tell us that we may not exceed $4000 of charges at any time, they tell us that we may not exceed $4000 throughout any month, even if the prepayment means we actually owe them nothing or they owe money to us. This change contravenes standard commercial practice that, if it was ever announced, was announced so obscurely that a normally assiduous customer would not see it. None of this is ethical business practice. Beware!
