ATTENTION FREELANCERS & BUSINESSES: Stay Away from Payoneer - One of the Worst Customer Experiences I’ve Ever Had
I am extremely disappointed with how Payoneer handled my account after more than eight years of legitimate use. I opened my account in 2018 and used it for legitimate freelance payments from Fiverr, Upwork, and DesignCrowd. I requested a simple correction from “Mohammed” to “Mohamed” to match my legal documents. What followed was more than three months of verification, followed by the closure of my account. I submitted my current passport, expired passport, Sri Lankan driving licence, bank statement, Maldives work permit, and evidence of my legitimate freelance work. These are genuine government-issued documents that, together, establish my identity and history. I sent more than 20 emails and follow-ups and contacted more than 15 live agents in these three months. However, I kept receiving the same scripted responses instead of a proper review of my account and documents. I also spoke with a supervisor named Martin, who scheduled a phone call with me. I expected him to review my case and ask questions about my documents and account history. Instead, he did not ask me anything about my situation. He only repeated that the decision could not be overridden and that he did not have the authority to change it. I had already received the same response from several agents and through multiple emails. The call felt pointless because there was no meaningful review or explanation. Despite repeatedly requesting a senior compliance review, I was never told what specific compliance issue or activity caused the closure, or why my case could not be reconsidered after I submitted additional legitimate documents. What makes this even more frustrating is that Payoneer charged me the $29.95 annual fee, yet when I actually needed proper customer support, I received repeated scripted responses instead of meaningful assistance. I find it extremely difficult to understand how a company can charge customers for its service while providing this level of support when a serious account issue arises. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering Payoneer to think carefully and consider alternative payment providers. Going through months of frustration, repeated scripted responses, and what felt like an inability to understand the human circumstances behind a genuine case has been extremely disappointing. I have never experienced customer service this poor from a financial service. After more than eight years of legitimate use, this is not the level of support I expected. Payoneer: My experience has left me with serious concerns about how customer issues and compliance cases are actually handled.
