⭐ 1 Star – Extremely Disappointed With PetMedics Walkden I recently took my two pet rats, Maris and Piper, to PetMedics Walkden on Thursday 23/11/25 to see Vetician Sim Baykal. Both were prescribed Baytril and I requested Metacam for pain and inflammation relief, explaining that I’ve owned over a dozen rats and it’s always been safe and effective for them. I was told Metacam wasn’t in stock but I’d get a call the next day when it arrived. By Friday afternoon, still no call. I couldn’t get through to the Walkden branch at all, so another PetMedics location kindly chased it up and confirmed it was ready for collection. When my brother went to pick it up, he was handed Mipet Meloxaid instead of Metacam — a generic version that I hadn’t been told would be substituted. I didn’t think much of it at first since the active ingredient was the same, but as soon as I tried to give it to my rats, both completely rejected it. They dribbled it out, rubbed their faces in distress, and refused to touch any food it was mixed with. I called the practice to explain and asked to exchange it for Metacam or Loxicom, as both are palatable and suitable for small animals. After the receptionist spoke with the vets, I was told there were no alternatives available and that I wouldn’t get a refund because the bottle had been opened. That’s completely unacceptable. I was prescribed one brand and given another without consent, and now I’m left with a medication my pets can’t take. Their welfare has been compromised because of poor communication and a lack of care. It feels like profit was prioritised over proper treatment. For such a costly visit, I expected professionalism and compassion, not to be dismissed when raising genuine concerns. I will not be returning to PetMedics Walkden and strongly advise others to double-check what they’re being dispensed before leaving the clinic.
