MIT-PE Partnered with Great Learning is…

MIT-PE Partnered with Great Learning is a fantastic professional education path! MIT-PE ADSP Massachusetts Institute of Technology Applied Data Science Program is a super intensive 12-week program consisting of 8 courses with three main projects: a Python coding and statistics first project, an elective project, and a capstone project. The 8 courses are the following: Foundations: Python and Statistics (2 weeks), Data Analysis and Visualization (1 week), Machine Learning (1 week), Practical Data Science (1 week), Deep Learning (1 week), Recommendation Systems (1 week) Elective Project, and Capstone Project. The first week of the program you learn Python and the second week you learn descriptive and inferential statistics. If you took statistics in college imagine all that you learned in that one undergraduate course in a semester and compressed it into one week and that will give you an idea of the intensity and compression of every course in this program. You are getting 12 semesters of college curriculum compressed into 12 weeks. Each course has 30 to 40 mini videos most no longer than 20 minutes to tutor. There are world-class Massachusetts Institute of Technology professors performing real world research in data science, statistics, engineering, and the mathematical and biological sciences who teach live lectures during the weekday. Each course features a different professor, and each lecture is 2 hours long. There are live mandatory mentor sessions every Saturday and Sunday each 2 hours long. During these sessions you go line by line through code in Jupyter notebooks on case studies. This is when you can ask detail-oriented code questions. All live sessions are recorded and uploaded usually within a day. For projects, there is an AI mentor to help you through code and the mentors provide a lot of tips and tricks. Great Learning also provides excellent motivational support and empathy through the program managers. you communicate with them chiefly via Slack. They are fantastic! I recommend to anyone who is taking this program to plan accordingly. This is not-self-paced and extremely rigorous. It is 12 semesters of college in 12 weeks. They offer pre-grogram prep course work. Use those courses to learn the Olympus learning platform. Get familiar with it before the orientation meeting. Listen to the lectures to get the concepts then watch them again on video and take notes. Study your course material to pass the quizzes. Pre-read class lecture notes and slides. The lectures are high ltitude and big picture concepts and may require some critical thinking. Use the case studies to practice working in Jupyter notebooks and applying the concepts. Ideally, get 2 monitors: 1 for the mentor session lecture and 1 for working on the Jupyter notebook during the mentor session. Copy the code in the case sessions and practice it. Just because you run through code with a mentor, does not mean you know what you are doing. Practice. Copy the code in the case studies and practice it. Hands-on work is essential. When you get to Deep Learning, pay 9.99 for Colab Pro. You will need the compute power and higher rank for the shared colab. Only extract files using your Jupyter notebook once. Extraction uses up your quota. If google colab quota is exceeeded, you have to an entire day to reset your quota. This is not an MIT-PE problem. It is a Google Colab shared services problem. But it can impact your ability to work on projects. You need a 60% in every class to get your certificate. This is not 60% overall but 60% in every class. The program cost of ADSP for me in September 2024 was $3700 USD. They do offer early enrollment discounts and financing options. Just do it! Slap it on a credit card if you have to. I did. Data Science is just fun! and MIT-PE and Great Learning ignite a passion for data Science!! So get in there and just do it! I know this program will kickstart my data science career! Once you graduate, they offer you access to your course materials, Olympus, and the Greater Learning Community for 3 years. The program also includes 'Excelerate' to help you with your job search. They offer resume writing tips, interviews help, and ideas to jumpstart your data science career. I am just starting that process now. I will be receiving my certificate Feb 8 2025.
