Exlore Taiwan Trip
We enjoyed the trip and liked our tour guide, who was warm, friendly, patient, spoke good English and took good care of us. We did many and varied activities. Highlights were the day with the indigenous family, the lake visit and the forest, also the shared meals, one dinner and two lunches. All of our accommodation and the bus was comfortable. Our driver was very nice too. Things that could be altered/improved: Firstly, it's not really an 11 day trip - the first day you meet at 6 pm for a meeting only (although our guide did also kindly accompany us to a street market to show us the food), and the guided trip ended after a group lunch (after 3 hours travel) on the 10th day. The 11th day was just breakfast in the hotel and checkout, by ourselves. So it's more like 9, or 8.5 days as we had the 10th afternoon 'free'. Every evening except one, was 'free', which meant you had to go and find your own food somewhere. Although we were given suggestions, we found it quite stressful negotiating menus which we couldn't read and talking to staff who didn't speak English. This is a deal breaker for me - on previous trips with other companies, there have been organised meals which you can join in or not. I felt as a result of this that we didn't try so many of the different foods as we had to order things from pictures that we could recognise, thereby eating similar things. I also felt sorry for the single people, who didn't always have someone to do anything with in the rather long evenings. We would really have appreciated organised evening meals. We seemed to spend a lot of time in various towns and our preference would have been more time in the countryside some of which looked spectacular - but I appreciate this was the way the tour worked. Overall, although slightly disappointed, we enjoyed it, but wouldn't repeat it and probably not use Intrepid again as there are many other companies who offer similar experiences.
