Updated - Terrible customer service in the store
Update. Following our bad experience at the Wickford store, we cannot fault the work of the Customer Service team who corrected our order very quickly and also compensated us for the experience. Thumbs up in particular for Jade who did the bulk of the work. Terrible customer service in the store. We drove for an hour to the Wickford store having already had a phone quote to see the pergolas and look for possible garden furniture. We spent about three hours in the shop in total and were spoken to once; after about an hour a salesperson spoke to us (only to point out the price of the furniture we were sitting on). We then spent another two hours choosing furniture, colours and sizes to suit the pergola carting footstools and seat cushions around. We finally went to the counter (after about 3 hours) with our quote and details of the furniture we had decided to buy. We were very hot and tired (upstairs was sweltering but we were not offered a drink). There were two members of staff there. After a discussion about loose cushions (we weren’t able to buy the display ones) one of the staff left the counter. The one who had spoken to us earlier said “oh you were looking at the Ciara” to which we said Yes. She then walked out from the counter and walked across the shop floor talking to other customers and started having a conversation with two other members of staff leaving us at the counter. We very nearly walked out at this point and it was only after a few minutes when I called out and asked if anybody wanted to sell us something that two of them quickly returned to the counter. I certainly hope they weren’t on commission, we basically did everything ourselves. We didn’t know about rainproof covers so bought those separately. Good salespeople would have welcomed customers, discussed the project, helped with advice, offered a drink and certainly not left people at a counter who were going to spend approx £7000 to go and have a conversation. This is a review of shop customer service only. The woman we spoke to on the phone was really helpful with the quote and when we subsequently added on the cover.
