Good idea, poor execution
In theory this sounds like a great idea. It has some features, like correcting a message, voice messaging and other things that are helpful in language learning. But in practice, it's a dating app, that isn't even all that concerned about women's safety on the app. I think part of the problem is that they demand a real picture of a person, which is completely irrelevant when you just want to talk to someone who happens to speak the language you want to learn. I would prefer to use a picture of my cat or whatever instead. There are better ways to keeps scammers off the app, such as phone verification or whatever. And you can only search for people who speak your target language, not fellow speakers of your own language trying to learn, which could be incredibly useful as they might have cracked a grammar code or something that you yourself are struggling with. And when absusive messages comes in, and you report them, it's random luck what Tandem does with them. Apparently you should just be okay with being called swear words from someone you never interacted with, because all Tandem will do is give that person a "warning" whatever that means. And people also use the report feature as a revenge mechanism, if you don't want to video chat with them. So their demand of using real pictures, but not verifying those pictures so they *can't* get reported is very contradictory.
