Damaged seats and entertainment systems
On boarding a 10 1/2hr flight to Sri Lanka from Heathrow both my wife’s and May seats were broken. My wife’s wouldn’t recline and my seat back would not lock in the vertical position (as required under international aviation legislation as a health and safety issue). In the case of an in-flight incident I could have been seriously injured or killed. Also the seat back damping was damaged such that the seat back just flopped back into the fully reclined position. This was pointed out to the flight attendant prior to departure who confirmed the issue but said that he could not do anything as there were no spare seats. They should have got the seat repaired prior to departure. I complained on landing asking for upgrades on the return flight or for our flight charges to be reimbursed. SLA did nothing. On our return flight both in-flight entertainment systems were damaged. Again SLA did nothing. I complained when we got home multiple times up to SLA’s CEO level (Mr Richard Nuttall). According to Mr Nuttall my life as a pensioner is worth £120 and I only get that if I sign a disclaimer gagging order! After spending 10 1/2 hr in a broken seat I have now developed a recurring pain at the base of my spine. Avoid SLA like the plague. Clearly they do not maintain their aircraft to a high level and even their CEO thinks passenger safety is something not to be taken seriously and don’t give a damn about it.
