How Rent-a-Car Turned My Vacation into a Comedy of Errors
Hey folks, have you ever had a rental car experience that was so bad, it made you feel like you should have just walked to your destination? Well, I recently had one of those experiences with rent-a-car, and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure. First of all, the website promised us that our rental car would be waiting for us at the airport, but when we got there, we found out that we had to call them and go on a wild goose chase to find the elusive green cross. And let me tell you, it wasn't as easy as finding Waldo. We had to drag our bags and our kids around for 20 minutes before finally locating the green cross. But surprise, surprise, there was no car waiting for us. We had to wait another 30 minutes for a car to pick us up and drive us to their backyard office. And let me tell you, their backyard office was a sight to behold. It was a small shed that barely fit the two of us, let alone the other customers waiting in line. We waited for 45 minutes just to get to the counter, and when we finally did, we were greeted by a dirty black Citroen Jumpy that looked like it hadn't been washed since the invention of the wheel. We asked them to wash it, but they said it would take 30 minutes. And when we came back, they hadn't even started on the outside. Talk about slow service. But wait, there's more. When we finally got in the car, we noticed that the rearview mirror was loose and couldn't be adjusted. And the AC was a hot mess, literally. The back was scorching hot, while the front was an icebox. And to top it all off, only one speaker worked, so we couldn't even jam out to some tunes. But the cherry on top of this sundae of disappointment was the return process. We had to call them the day before to make sure we could return the car at 8 am and get a ride to the airport. And even then, they said they opened at 9 am. We had to argue with them to open at 8 am, or we'd miss our flight. And when we got there, we had to wait in line again, and we barely made it to the airport on time. Overall, our experience with rent-a-car was a hot mess, and not in a good way. The only thing that saved our trip was the beautiful South of France, and the fact that we didn't have to deal with rent-a-car's non-existent customer service again.
