Happy with SO Energy’s Services
Having been a customer with So Energy for a couple of years (both via fixed 12-month tariffs), I conducted my usual reviews of all available tariffs on the market with a view to either staying with SO Energy or leaving for a competitor given my current contract expires at the end of July 2025. After a fair amount of research, I found an alternative provider with more competitive costs, so decided to switch: my decision was purely financial as I’ve never had an issue with SO Energy in any way. Within hours, I realised I was making a mistake as the new utility provider (Outfox Energy) had already been problematic and I was unable to provide them with opening reads via their portal (which should be simple). I reached out to Outfox to establish what the problems were and was told there was an issue with their portal/website, they were aware, and I should submit my opening reads via email. Given I’d had problems with Outfox years ago and at the height of the energy crisis, I decided to follow my gut and told them to cancel the switch: I was going to stay with SO Energy. For me, personally, good customer service is more important than saving a few pounds over the year. Unfortunately, and to make matters worse, Outfox ignored each and every request to cancel the switch and it was only after SO Energy's collections team contacted me did I realise Outfox had continued with the switch regardless and my direct debit with SO Energy had been terminated. I called and spoke with the SO Energy collections team, explained what had happened and they were great: helped me by putting my account on stop, applying notes to the account as to why I wouldn’t be chased, and requested callback of my custom from Outfox. A couple of working days later and I’m back with SO Energy as was confirmed via email today (30.06.2025). I, personally, find SO Energy to be helpful, efficient, and their customer portal is so easy to navigate, whether I’m sending them meter reads or adjusting my direct debit. They are a little less competitive than some energy providers, but the savings are relatively minimal, especially when customer service is so good. Lessons have been learned.
