Not a pleasant experience…
My wife and I were on flight UL 503 from Colombo to London on 27th September. The staff was fine but the food was probably the worst we experienced in the last 3 decades we have flown with SL Airways. The lunch starter was cubed potato,carrot and green peas with a touch of mayo/ salad cream. The chicken that was served with the rice was in the form of a tasteless stew ( when SL has the best spices to cook with) and the accompanying veg was the same as the starter veg in a bit of white gravy. The beef meal was even worse. as It was so tough, had to leave it without eating. The dessert was so thinly spread in a little square container, as the spoon touched the base when trying to get a scoop. It looked Insipid with no trim of any sort and looked like half set yoghurt. We also never received the following: No freshner towellette to wipe hands, no welcome drink/snack sachets, no menu cards. A very limited drink selection, cheap apple and orange juice overly sweet, & hardly any miniature soda cans. Arms of the seats were sticky, had to use wet disinfectant wipes to clean up before sitting down. All in all the service has gone down very badly. This is not acceptable to its passengers, who are trying hard to support the airline to keep going. It is long over due for the officials in charge to wake up, and sort out this appalling state of our national carrier, to provide a decent level of service.
