Lava Car Rental Ignores Full Protection Claim
We had an amazing road trip through Iceland, but our experience with Lava Car Rental was a major letdown. Despite purchasing their Full Protection Service, we ended up paying out of pocket for a flat tire – a basic roadside issue that should have been covered. While my friend, a trained car mechanic, was ready to fix the problem, the car wasn’t equipped with a spare tire, and the repair spray was useless because the damage was on the sidewall. We called both Lava’s main and emergency numbers. The emergency line directed us to an external 24/7 road assistance provider, who delivered a temporary spare. That alone cost us around €850, and the new tire another €140, all paid on the spot. We followed Lava’s instructions and submitted the receipts by email. Weeks later, we’ve received no reply whatsoever. We’ve called and sent follow-up emails, but the company continues to ignore us. In short: • Car was not properly equipped • We had Full Protection, but are still waiting for any form of reimbursement • Customer service has been completely unresponsive We urge future renters to think twice before trusting Lava’s insurance coverage or support claims. A company that sells “Full Protection” but ghosts you when things go wrong is not one we can recommend.
