Well worth the time and money. Just what I needed to jumpstart my transition
I joined IDOL academy because it was highly rated by many in the instructional design groups I follow. The price was more reasonable than most of the other academies I considered joining, and the program seemed much more well-developed. I also took a look at the portfolios of some of their graduates and was impressed. The variety in the style and energy of portfolios was very interesting to me. After participating in the program, I can say it was well worth my time (and money), because it gave me the jump start I needed to put together my own portfolio, update my resume and LinkedIn profile, and feel confident in my new skills. I especially liked the constant feedback I received from mentors, coaches and other academy members, and the community that was built. I also like the fact that I am a lifetime member. Most people transitioning to a new profession can not spent 40 hours a week working on the transition. So the idea of "never being behind" in the program was very comforting. They have incentives and prizes and contests to keep pushing you along, but no punishments for taking longer than others to work your way through the learning. I will undoubtedly come back to the academy often to upskill and engage with other instructional designers, as there is so much more learning available than I could take advantage of during my 8 week cohort.
