HM Casa Del Mar on Isla Holbox is powered by a large generator
HM Casa Del Mar on Isla Holbox looks really nice on the pictures but HM hotels ‘forgets’ to let you know that the house is powered by a large generator. The generator produces a lot of low tone high volume sound which vibrates throughout the house. The generator is installed underneath two sleeping area’s which makes them unable to sleep with the generator on. (See photo’s). You can compare the areas around the house and sleeping area’s with a busy bus station where all busses are run by diesel engines. With the construction of the house it doesnt really matter if you are inside or outside. Nothing else on the island is powered by individual generators, there is normal electricity over the cable however HM said they have an issue with the powersupplier so they installed the generator. Jedier (the local host) gave us after check-in the following options: switch off the loud generator but you’ll lose all electricity, airconditioning units, running (warm)water, toilet, fridge & freezer et cetera or leave it on and/or basically get used to it on your ‘relaxing’ holiday. After a horrible night and getting really stressed about the continuous sound we asked Jedier to move to another place. HM has multiple hotels on Isla Holbox, but unfortunately they had nothing available. We traveled with three families so we requested 3 separated rooms like the house however he was only willing to offer us two rooms to share. Their cancelation policy was not an option since we already checked in. We felt stuck. After a lot of e-mails back and forth with the HM team they didn’t leave us satisfied with this issue and didn’t seem to understand that you have to share this crucial information beforehand. Their offer was around 15% compensation for the three nights total. Hopefully with this review you’ll have a better insight in what this villa and HM hotels really has to offer you. Hopefully you are still able to cancel or at least not book this house till this 30kw generator is removed.
