Disappointing Stay: Poor Maintenance, No Privacy, and Safety Concerns
We were really looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing getaway with friends, at Misty Morning Escape, but unfortunately, our stay fell short of expectations. While the cabin itself had potential, there were several issues that made our experience stressful rather than serene. To start, the showers were not draining properly, which made getting ready each day inconvenient. We also found the blankets to be dirty and ended up having to wash them ourselves before using them, which was disappointing after a long drive. A major concern arose when the gas grill unexpectedly exploded while we were trying to cook dinner, because the hard wired gas line connected to the house had been chewed on. We attempted to call the emergency number provided, but no one answered. Instead, we were routed to an answering service and never heard back that night. When someone finally called us the next day, it wasn’t to check on our safety, it was to inform us we had been accused of trespassing because we stepped on a small patch of grass near the property line. This interaction felt not only unfounded but also frustrating, especially considering the neighbor has multiple cameras pointed toward the cabin, including the back deck. We were uncomfortable the entire stay knowing we were constantly being watched, which completely undercut any sense of privacy or relaxation. Additionally, the property is not pet-friendly in practice. There’s no safe area to walk dogs, and the overgrown landscape concealed hazards, including a neglected, algae-filled pond one of our dogs accidentally fell into because it was completely obscured by weeds. The dryer in the cabin is also extremely loud and sounds like it’s on the verge of breaking. Overall, what was meant to be a restful weekend turned into a chaotic and tense experience. We hope the host takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the safety, cleanliness, communication, and guest privacy going forward. With some attention to these issues, future guests might have a much better time. Edit: This review was intended to be constructive for any future renters who may be interested in this home and it was met with a response that was defensive, dismissive, and lacking accountability. Rather than addressing the concerns with professionalism or empathy, they tried to discredit our experience, which is poor practice in hospitality. The review reflects our actual experience, including the stress of a gas grill fire, lack of timely emergency support, and cleanliness issues. The fact that a technician came after the incident doesn’t negate the fear and inconvenience we felt when no one could be reached that night. The mention of “trespassing” over a small patch of grass and being monitored by cameras facing common outdoor areas felt accusatory and invasive, not the peaceful retreat we expected. We stand by our review. The stay was uncomfortable and poorly handled, and the company’s response reinforces the lack of empathy and accountability we experienced.
