A Painful Experience
I enrolled on Future Fit's Level 4 and 5 Nutrition courses last summer after graduating university. I wanted to obtain qualifications that would bridge the gap between my undergrad degree (epidemiology) and postgrad (nutrition), which I will be studying this academic year after a full year of self-employment. The courses I enrolled on exceeded £3000 - not cheap by any stretch, but cheaper than a single term at university (scary, right?). Whilst the content was informative, particularly on the the Level 5 Nutrient Metabolism course, I encountered numerous issues that negatively impacted my experience. First, I was accused of using AI for my Level 4 qualification (but not my Level 5s - weirdly) despite coming from an academic background which inhibits the use of AI and writing my own work and conducting/referencing my own research. The irony: the examiner who accused me of this used the free-version of an AI software to mark my work. Upon professional review, this issue was resolved and I achieved the qualification - 9 weeks later. This brings me to my second problem: response times. What they don't tell you when selling you the course is that it takes around 8 weeks to receive feedback for assignments and another 8 weeks to receive certificates. If you don't pass first time, it's another 8 weeks for remarking. For people looking for swift feedback, Future Fit is not an ideal provider. In addition to this, I found the lack of formal teaching to be thoroughly disappointing. For £3000+, you'd expect at least get a couple of hours of face-to-face learning per week. Yet, the course is entirely self-paced; there is no teaching component and it is up to the student to take responsibility. Whilst this was not a problem for me personally (I have always enjoyed independent learning and research projects), for people that thrive off accountability and the routine that lesson timetables provide, this course may not be a great option. TL; DR: - The content in the course is rigorous and well-explained. - Examiners use AI to mark your work but are critical of the use of AI. The AI they use are questionable in their accuracy, as I was flagged for plagiarism at Level 4 despite not using AI. - Be prepared to wait - a long time. - There is no teaching at all in this course.
