Sugar Mountain Escape and Carolina Cabin Rentals
Wow - what a less than pleasant experience. We arrived at Sugar Mountain Escape around 5 pm on Monday (checkin at 4 pm) to find that this cabin was falsely advertised as having “central air”. We chose rentals with central air due to me having asthma and my husband having allergies. We also found dishes that may or may not have been washed in the dishwasher and used soap in the master shower. So, we are not sure if the shower was cleaned. So we called Carolina Cabin Rental and left a VM within an hour of arriving to discuss this. A gentleman named Tim called us back about 20 mins later. We had found roller air units, 1 with a vent out a window and the other in the master bedroom that blew hot air out the back. Tim said he could send someone out to fix the unit, but then realized as we had told him, there is no central air in this house, so there is nothing to fix. We also found that the ice maker wasn’t working as well. And it appears there has been a problem with the refrigerator before due to floor being a little warped around it. He said would contact the manager and have them call us since there was no other cabin for us to go to and see about compensating us for it or we could cancel our vacation. Seriously? At 9 pm a lady (the manager) called and said that they had a system glitch 2 weeks ago that caused all their homes to show that they all had central air - this is not true this house since we had booked this cabin over a month prior. (PS as of Sunday when we were leaving on their website they are still falsely advertising this house as having central air.) She also said she would work on getting a “window unit” for us and offered to have someone clean - uhhhhmmm - we’ve already done that now, so no thanks. She offered us $275 for our inconvenience (we are paying $381.91 a night) uhhhhmmm no thank you. Gonna need more than that for this “inconvenience”/false advertising. I don’t think the NC Real Estate Commission considers a rolling air unit with a pipe out the window central air. So, it’s now dark, we brought our dogs and we’re going to let them out. It’s very dark, a very steep driveway and a flood light is out making it difficult to see walking the dog at night. Made note of that to contact them Tuesday. We ended up having to open the slider door in the master bedroom to blow the hot air from the roller unit outside. PS this thing is so loud it’s like a 747 engine blowing all night - so no sleep. It’s now Tuesday morning, we get up and there is water underneath the refrigerator so we clean that up. Tim calls again and we make him aware there is the leak of the refrigerator now in addition to the ice maker not working and we need a flood light replaced. He said he would get back with us on that. According to him, the manager that called last night had to talk to her manager as they discuss a refund for us. A lot of manager layers there, no wonder management fees are so high. Anyway, almost a full 24 hrs since we arrived, and a young man arrives about 4:20 pm to install the roller air unit and pipe it out the master window. We asked about the flood light and refrigerator and he said he doesn’t do that. So, still not fixed. PS the roller air unit they installed was louder than the other that blew hot air out the back. So, no sleep. Wednesday morning, Felicity called and left a message making sure the air was working. When we called back, we told her yes but it’s loud, and inquired about the flood light and the refrigerator. She had to go back to look in the system because she had closed the service ticket - the services had not been completed. After looking at it, she said she would have to get back with us on those items. When we asked about a refund, she said she thought Tim had taken care of that. When she looked in to it further, it’s still with the manager of the manager and being looked at. Obviously the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Very frustrating when you take off time for work and have to deal with headache after headache. When is there time to relax? Wednesday came and went with no flood light replaced, no refrigerator repair and no other calls from Carolina Cabin Rental. We slept a little bit with the jet engine blaring in the room, I guess from shear exhaustion. We never heard another word from Carolina Cabin Rentals the rest of our 6 day stay and nothing was repaired. The towel continued on the floor and the refrigerator continued to leak. Sugar Mountain Escape continues to be listed on their website as “central air” which it is not.
