Testing Experience
Below are the comments from one of our employees who had taken the language test: I have completed both Cantonese and Mandarin oral tests today. I was told by one of the evaluators that I should let the organization know my experience. I’m not sure if you would be the right person, but here it is. I did the Mandarin one first, and all questions were medical related (most were clinical questions). I let her know that I am a social worker and don’t know the answer. The evaluator reminded me that there’s no right or wrong answer. However, after I answered some questions, she would go back to the questions again. The evaluator at one point even told me that “you should know because you work with nurses.” She said: “you should ask your employer to change the exam then.” I had a better experience with the Cantonese-speaking evaluator, who explained to me that my answers needed to show him that I understood his medical-related questions. Well, I didn’t know the correct answers, but this time I was able to add logical thinking into my answers.
