Why I Would Not Recommend SHNU
Why I Would Not Recommend SHNU University As a student, I expect my university to provide meaningful, personalized feedback and support in my learning journey. However, my experience at SHNU University has been disappointing, primarily due to their lack of concern regarding professors using ChatGPT or other LLMs (large language models) to provide feedback and answer student questions. 1. Lack of Genuine Academic Engagement Instead of receiving thoughtful, expert feedback tailored to my work, I often received AI-generated responses that lacked depth, nuance, and personalization. A professor's role is to guide and mentor students, but relying on AI undermines the human element of education—something crucial for academic growth. 2. No Accountability or Oversight The university does not seem to have any regulations or oversight in place to ensure professors provide authentic responses. When students raise concerns, there is little to no action taken to address the issue. If AI-generated feedback is indistinguishable from a professor's input, what am I paying tuition for? 3. Missed Learning Opportunities Engaging with professors should involve meaningful discussions, clarification of concepts, and critical thinking exercises. Instead, responses generated by LLMs often feel generic and superficial, missing opportunities to challenge students or provide deeper insights. Professors using AI as a shortcut rather than a supplement devalues the learning experience. 4. Ethical and Academic Integrity Issues If students are expected to maintain academic integrity, the same should be required of faculty. Universities should set the standard for ethical education, and outsourcing feedback to AI without disclosure or meaningful review is a disservice to students who seek mentorship and real academic dialogue. Conclusion While AI can be a useful tool for education, it should never replace direct engagement between students and professors. Unfortunately, SHNU University does not seem to care about this issue, and as a result, students may receive low-effort, AI-generated responses instead of valuable academic guidance. If you are looking for a university that prioritizes real academic support, I would not recommend SHNU University.
