Extremely disappointing

Rented a large house in Banner Elk/Beech Mountain area for about 15 of us. Five days before we were due to arrive we get an email informing us our reservation at been canceled and that we’d be receiving about 1/4 of the money back. We called the company and got it worked out. Upon arrival to the house later that week we found that it had not been cleaned. Multiple trash bags on the floor, beds unmade, bathrooms dirty, etc. We called to let them know and were told our only option would be to move all of us to a different house just for one night until it could be cleaned. It was about 9:30pm at this point with snow rapidly coming down, making the visibility and roads a huge issue. We were also going to ski early the next day, so driving between houses to transfer our things really wasn’t an option. We let them know we were uncomfortable driving and would prefer to clean the house ourselves and instead get a refund for the first night. After lots of back and forth the company agreed. We spent our first night doing hours worth of laundry and cleaning to make the house sanitary enough for us to go to sleep. Luckily some of our group found out soon enough to stop and buy sheets before arriving to the house. The next morning we left to ski and when we came back at the end of the day, the house had been cleaned but the sheets we had bought were gone. The cleaning crew likely mistook our sheets for theirs and took them with them. We let the company know and asked that they be returned but we were told that wouldn’t be possible. We just received word that our “refund” for the first night would only be about $400, which is not equivalent to the full price of the first night. Extremely disappointing experience to say the least, think twice before booking with this rental company.
