This tour took us to 🇯🇴 Jordan
This tour took us to 🇯🇴 Jordan. We were picked up at the airport in Amman airport and driven the 45 minutes to our lovely hotel on the outskirts of the city. We met the group and had an informative/helpful chat with out very knowledgeable tour guide. Next day we were up early and off to The vast Roman ruin in Jerash, in the city of Jerash. As it happened, our guide was from Jerash and knew so much about this amazing sight. We went out that night (we were a small friendly group of 8) for a typical Jordanian meal in a very lovely/friendly vibrant restaurant in the middle of Amman, which we all enjoyed immensely. Early rise next day and headed off to Mount Nebo for a spectacular view of the outstretching Holy Land shimmering in the afternoon sun. Such a peaceful atmosphere. Then on to the lovely little town of Madaba for for a well deserved lunch. I’d love to go back to Madaba to spend more time there, exploring the many shops. From Madaba we drove to the Dead Sea and a very comfortable 5 star hotel (we had a gorgeous view of the Dead Sea and the far of shore of 🇮🇱 Israeli in the haze. A quick dip and a rub down of Dead Sea mud is a must, and leaves a person all a tingle. Then a lovely dinner in the hotel restaurant to finish off the day. Next day was an early rise and breakfast and a short drive to a Crusader Castle up in the high hills. The views were magnificent. Then on to the cherry on the cake - Petra. It did not disappoint! On first glance when the vita opens up from the deep canyon, the view is like nothing experienced before. There are no words in my limited vocabulary to express the gasp of delight. People had told me that Petra is big, Petra is BIG! There is so much more than the ‘Treasury’ and it all has to be viewed. That night we had a delicious meal on the rooftop restaurant of the hotel overlooking the entrance to Petra. Next day was a detour from the itinerary - up very early, we drove to ‘Little Petra,’ a cosier, smaller version of the vastness of Petra. We then ascended rudimentary stairs cut into the very mountain we were going over to get to ‘The Monastery’ a bigger, more magnificent edifice also cut into the rock face. After a well earned rest in a comfortable Bedouin tent and some strong Arabic coffee, we descended the mountain at the other side to end up in Petra again. It was hard going and might not suit some, but for us it was the highlight of the trip so far (and I came to see the Treasury!) another early rise and we were off to the Wadi Rum. A three hour drive around this outstretched, beguiling sea of sand will stick long in the memory of so many fantastic memories of this trip. Thank you to Intrepid for a very well organised holiday of a lifetime!
