Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Price
We recently returned from an Eastern Mediterranean cruise aboard MSC Fantasia, and unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience. Embarkation and disembarkation in Istanbul were chaotic, with no staff guidance, no signage, and no clear process—just a handwritten cabin number and no cruise card or welcome information. Disembarkation was equally disorganised, with late time slots forced on guests and no support for those with private transfers. Customer service throughout the cruise was poor. Staff were frequently dismissive and unhelpful, and basic queries were met with sarcasm or indifference. Facilities were subpar—lifts were unreliable and slow, dining was inflexible, and buffet service lacked essentials like butter, spoons, and even water stations in extreme heat. Simple requests were routinely refused, and the overall atmosphere felt more like a budget cruise than a premium experience. Despite requesting private dining, we were seated with strangers, including a disruptive toddler, which made meals uncomfortable. The rigid dinner schedule also clashed with excursions and entertainment. For the approximately £5,000 we spent, including excursions and onboard expenses, the value was simply not there—especially when compared to our previous cruise with Cunard, which offered far superior service, flexibility, and attention to detail. While a couple of staff members stood out for their kindness, the overall experience has left us unwilling to travel with MSC again. We would not recommend this cruise line to others seeking a relaxing or well-organised holiday.
