Intially, our tour guide Ali was friendly and funny but it became apparent as the time progressed that he was not suited to his role. He basically berated people for asking questions if they didn't understand and was very impatient. Bearing in mind most of the people in our group were elderly or at least middle aged. He told us about previous complaints that customers had had which was very unprofessional and consistently reminded us of how poor Moroccans are. We made the mistake of eating at one of the prearranged restaurants without paying the extra £119 as we thought we could pay at the restaurants separately; he made an example of us on the bus instead of dealing with the issue privately. He did not tell us beforehand about this arrangement. I also made the sinful error of asking at the Meknes tea room if we could pay separately at this specific place just to confirm what he had previously said and he very rudely remarked 'What planet are you from? Mars?!' I stopped speaking to him after this because it was abundantly clear Ali lacked even basic customer service skills. the berber Mohammed should have been the tour guide was it not for his English proficiency. He had all the skills Ali lacks. Train Mohammed and sack Ali. The driver and cleaner were also superb. The second week was more enjoyable although one must be very wary of the taxi drivers being deceitful and getting pressured into buying stuff at Marakesh market. Beware of pick pockets also. I had 300MAD lifted from my pocket and I also got food poisoning. Be on your guard. Finally, this type of holiday is more suited to older travellers with money to spend and tips to endlessly give. On a positive note, the hotels we stopped at were generally good even if the porters at some of the hotels we stopped at were over zealous in their luggage delivery.
