I recently traveled on the MSC Virtuosa…
I recently traveled on the MSC Virtuosa Cruise and overall had a pleasant experience. The food at the Minuetto Complimentary Restaurant was delicious and satisfying. However, I was disappointed by the behavior of two particular staff members at the restaurant. One waitress ignored our group of four, seated at a middle table, while she served guests at the left and right tables. When we attempted to place our order, she told us to wait until she finished serving the others. Only after attending to the surrounding tables did she return to take our order. This made us feel overlooked and disrespected. Another waitress made an insensitive comment about my English accent. I found this particularly upsetting. Everyone speaks English with their own accent—Spaniards with a Spanish accent, Italians with an Italian accent, and so on. Naturally, I may also have an accent when speaking English. Ironically, this waitress herself, being Indonesian, also spoke English with an Indonesian accent, which at times I found difficult to understand. I was very disappointed that she would make fun of mine. This behavior felt discriminatory and made me feel uncomfortable. While I enjoyed the overall cruise, I believe MSC should provide additional training to staff to improve customer service—especially in showing respect, kindness, and professionalism to guests of all nationalities. A warm smile and basic courtesy can make a big difference and help elevate the company’s reputation even further.
