The auto-renewal trap
I just got a receipt confirming an auto-renewal - something that you would think would require some action on your personal end, and not something they would automatically include as a "service". I was told in the e-mail with the billing information, that the renewal would happen unless I told them otherwise 30 days ahead of the date of renewal. Only problem is that this e-mail was sent only 14 days prior, and therefore they'll probably argue that they were not informed sufficiently ahead of time. I'm no idiot - I know how this kind of stuff works. 14 days is more than plenty of time for them to cancel a renewal. So I guess I'll have to contact my bank and make sure the transaction doesn't go through. Or perhaps even block my card. Honestly it kinda pisses me off, since the price skyrockets after the first year far above what you imminently pay for the services. I also thought I was buying the domain as my own private for the 20 dollars, but this is not the case either. Chose their services on recommendations of a friend, but I guess she hadn't fallen into the renewal trap yet either... Otherwise I can't complain about anything. Their service is good and I've never had connections issues on my blog, but auto-renewal is the kind of stuff that makes me distrust a company, and honestly I was very surprised that they would do this kinda stuff to people who are often new to the business.
