Off Road Rubber Mats too small to be really useful
The “Off road rubber severe weather mats” for my Honda Jazz are nicely made and suitable for all three passenger foot-wells but totally INADEQUATE for the driver. The driver mat supplied is very small and extends neither up under the brake and accelerator pedals nor over the left side foot rest. On the website when ordering these mats the “generic and not car specific photo” shows this type of heavy duty floor mat clearly extending over the left side foot rest of that particular model car. It is VERY deceptive that the mats supplied for my car are not so generously cut. Maybe they should state on their website that the mats are actually no larger than those sold by Honda as OEM. When I wrote to CarMats.co.uk and complained about the small size of the driver’s mat their response that their mat was the same size as the mat supplied by Honda for the Jazz. The fact the OEM mat is inadequate does not mean that aftermarket “Off road rubber severe weather mats” need to be similarly so small. CarMats response was that the small size was necessary to avoid interference with the pedal travel. They stated that "having the mat go under the pedal can be hazardous." It is clear to me that this is a weak reply and that they have never fully investigated the possibility of interference of larger mats in a current generation (2020 to 2024) Honda Jazz. This car is only available with automatic transmission and so the mat will never stop a clutch pedal from being fully depressed. And the brake pedal should can never be depressed fully to the floor unless they are defective In reality, the thickness of the rubber mat is trivial compared to the travel distance available under the pedals! I have tested one of the rear passenger much larger mats in the drivers foot well and there is plenty of space, with no pedal interference up under the pedals. The description on the CarMats website states "Off Road Rubber: For the outdoor lovers. Made from hard wearing rubber. Easy to wipe clean." Sure, the small rubber mat sold for the drivers side foot-well is easy to wipe clean but what about protecting the underlying carpet that Honda trims the entire footwell area underneath the pedals with? Living in wet and muddy Devon I really thought these mats would be good but they do not provide the level of protection I had hoped and was implied on The CarMats website. In summary buy less expensive generic cut-to-fit rubbers mats from Halfords
