Charges are higher than expected
The electrician, Mason, came promptly, was friendly, did a good job. But the bill for 15 minutes of actual work, plus 45 more minutes on site doing paper work and discussions with the office, so 1 hour in total, plus travelling, plus around $20 worth of materials, was an eye-watering $469.89, incl GST, less $50 introductory discount, so $419.89. I was provided a quote which I had to approve or go back to searching for another electrician and more delays and perhaps no better result. So, of course, I reluctantly approved it. And he continued to perform the work, which actually took only 15 minutes. But I expect that if there is still an electrician left who works for a callout plus hourly rates, that electrician's price would have been nearer to $200-250. Added after reading the response from Hornsby Electric: I wonder why this service is so different from that of Licensed to Chill who sent a technician around this week to perform the annual check on our ducted aircon system and, as usual, charged $242 (incl GST) to come out, spend one hour testing, and write and email a report. Or Plumbing Brothers who came in August to investigate a leak in an ensuite bathroom, spent no more than one hour, left, wrote and emailed a report and also charged $242 including GST.
